Young Enterprise Grampian Awards 2009

Young Enterprise Grampian and cushydoos were delighted to welcome top TV entrepreneur Richard Farleigh as special guest judge and after dinner speaker at The Young Enterprise Grampian Awards held on Tuesday 5th May 2009.

The event was a great success and attended by over 300 leading business people and supported by local organisations including First Oil, BP, Total and Shell. The awards dinner at the AECC to celebrated the acheivements of young entrepreneurs in the Grampian area.

A record number of entries from secondary schools throughout the North-East were submitted to Young Enterprise Grampian’s 2009 Business Initiative, and there were six school finalists for 2009.

·       FabECO (Hazlehead Academy)

·       4 Seasons (Inverurie Academy)

·       Just Jam (Aberdeen Grammar)


These finalists pitched their ideas and talked about their business experiences to to a panel opf judges, including top business entrepreneur, and ex-Dragon of BBC's Dragon's Den, Mr Richard Farleigh.

Taking the winning accolade and securing their place at the Scottish finals in Glasgow, on June 17th, was 'Baker's Dozen, from Albyn School.

Ian Phillips, YEG Chairman said “Attracting the next generation of entrepreneurial talent into business is vital for the future of Scotland’s economy, especially at a time when morale may be low. In 2009 we have seen school and pupil involvement in the initiative almost doubling - a fantastic result".

The awards will be happening in 2010 on Tuesday 27th April.
